Client came to me with a very specific idea/style in mind. I started the design process very confidently considering I have done the requested style before . He was looking for a classic drip/slime graphic with bold lines and bold color. I continued to share updates with the client back and forth during the whole process. As i was nearing the final details , I gathered more feedback that was an indicator to me that the client was looking for something else .
It wasn't that he didn't like the design , it was just not something that fit his idea of the brand .
I personally liked the design as well , but also felt it was too detailed and complex to be used as a logo and as the face of his brand . So after delivering what the client specifically asked for , i decided I would layout a new foundation to build the brand on .
I went back to the basics, "EXOTIC"-originating in or characteristic of a distant foreign country.
Exotic to me seemed like you needed to cross an ocean to get to. Something foreign but not so foreign you cant recognize. Which led me down the path of Mandarin / Japanese style script .
As I went down the path of Mandarin/ Japanese style scripts i came across a classic Chinese icon . The " Lucky Cat ". A animal and character very familiar to me that I just had to run with . In the end I feel the Eastern script style was the perfect compliment to the iconic lucky cat .
